Basket Basketry at MakeBHM
This introductory course will teach you the basics of foraging, processing, and weaving with plant bark. Sarah Bell will cover how and when to process plant material and basic basket weaving techniques, including weaving around a mold, creating handles, and plait designs. You will leave with your own unique bark basket bag. Class will take place every Monday at 6 pm-8 pm from April 27 - May 18.

Kudzu Pack Basket at Alabama Folk School
Join artist and farmer Sarah Bell as we make a pack basket from foraged vines! We will cover what vines to forage and when, processing the vines, and a spoke basket weaving technique to create a beautiful pack basket from the land. This class is beginner friendly, but may require some hand strength. All materials are provided.

Kudzu Egg Basket at Sumac Cottage
Spend the day with Sarah Bell learning about foraging, processing, and weaving kudzu to create beautiful baskets. You will learn how to identify and process kudzu vines for basket-weaving. Beginner-friendly and all materials provided.

Join Sarah as she demonstrates how to tie the “good luck” knot. You can join in and tie your own “good luck” knot, or take some rope and instructions home to try on your own. Sarah will chat about the history and role of knotwork in Chinese culture.
